| Why Green? |
We chose green because it symbolizes what is new and fresh. Green is the color of spring. It’s the primary color of the graphics, but green also makes its appearance in the talent photography as natural elements such as shrubs and fields of grass.
Green was chosen with our youthful audience in mind. It’s not a color you would expect from a typical broadcast network. But who cares. It felt right to us. And as it turned out, it’s an up-and-coming fashion color and it was, in fact, a hit when tested with sample audiences in focus groups. |
| It's all connected |
The idea of being connected is another theme from today’s youth culture that influenced The CW identity. From cell phones, to email, to IM, to personal websites, our audience is always connected. There is a sense of a greater community and you’re invited.
The idea of connection influenced the logo design. The letters are not only linked together, the design itself, with its curved linear forms, has a sense of fluid motion suggesting a connection to things that preceded it or things to come.
The linear motif extends into print and on-air packaging where it is used to connect show information and imagery to The CW logo. We also designed a custom font and graphic iconography for the network that are based on the theme of connection. |
